“20 seconds later and the soft top hides away into the car’s rear deck. In even less time, you can decide whether you love or don't what shows up underneath”, says Atanas Vilner. “Very often your opinion is formed in even less than the 3,9 seconds it takes for the car go to 100 kph”.
Rolls-Royce’s Director of Design Ian Cameron says “Above all we were determined to make this car a joy to live with and engineered it to give years of effortless service to its owner.” The British design specialist addresses that sentence to one of the most flamboyant cabriolets ever made – the 5.6 meter long Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. But even Mr. Cameron can’t deny the fact that no matter how solid the build quality is, no matter how high-quality materials the engineers and designers put in the car, both wood and leather can be altered by the age. Altered in a bad way. Especially when the cabin is directly exposed to UV radiation and the white seats are constanty ‘treated’ by the tones of those comfy dark jeans. This 10-year old Rolls ended in Vilner’s atelier because of those two reasons but not only. The commission: full interior rebuild.
Ready to chop the competition: Mitsubishi Allroads Ronin by Vilner Mitsubishi Allroads Ronin by Vilner. That’s how Atanas Vilner is calling his first 2018 project which is also one of his most comprehensive yet. This car amazes: the sheer volume and quality of the detailing is just mind-blowing. The name is inspired by Japanese traditions: we all know that this is Mitsubishi’s country of origin, but those traditions are refracted through Vilner’s art prism. The result: strong and individual character, a product like no other. There is not a single stock element left inside. Tradition and craftsmanship were the core of the concept. Precision in every detail; soft, warm colours and strong presence. Strong presence underlined by the cold emitting metallic inserts – reminiscent of the mighty katana, a samurai’s main weapon of choice.
The original dull beige upholstery is now gone and replaced with several tens of square meters of fine leather and Alcantara. The colour: carefully selected soft shade of Bordeaux. The areas for implementing the different materials were also carefully thought-out. Alcantara for the top of the dashboard to reduce windshield dazzling and also for the central console, the bases and the backs of the seats.
